LINK: tinyurl.com The Drifters are a long-lived African-American doo wop/R&B vo ...More cal group with a peak in popularity from 1953 to 1962, though several splinter Drifters continue to perform today. They were originally formed by Clyde McPhatter (of Billy Ward & the Dominoes) in 1953. Rolling Stone magazine states that The Drifters were the least stable of the vocal groups due to being low-paid hired musicians of The Drifters' management. The Treadwell Drifters website states that there have been 60 vocalists in the history of the Treadwell Drifters line. Several splinter groups by former Drifters members add to the count. Only one splinter Drifters group features a classic Drifters member, Charlie Thomas' Drifters. Nevertheless, there are two iterations of The Drifters which are notable. The first classic Drifters formed by Clyde McPhatter was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as The Drifters or The Original Drifters. The second Drifters formed by Treadwell featuring Ben E. King was separately inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as Ben E. King and The Drifters. In their induction, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame eclectically selected four members from the classic Drifters, two from the second Drifters, and one from the post-King Treadwell Drifters. ~ All I Have To Do Is Dream, The Everly Brothers, Baldyholly
Views: 3044 | | | | | Songs dont come much sweeter than the Everly's 'Dream'. Ater the failure of their third single, Ray Charles's 'This Little Girl Of Mine', The Everlys went back to the proven formula of Boudleaux Bryant, who had already written their huge smash, 'Bye Bye L ...More ove'. The song was to top the British chart for no fewer than 8 weeks. Breaking with the uptempo style of their previous hits, 'Dream' allowed them to really showcase their beautiful harmonies. The flip side of 'Dream' was the classic 'Claudette', written by Roy Orbison for his wife. Having run into Roy at a concert, the boys ask him if he has any new songs. He plays them 'Claudette', which they love. In turn he writes the song down on a cardboard box for them and the Everlys make it a hit in its own right, reaching number #30 in the US and nbr #6 in the UK. This gives Roy the boost he needs to leave Sun records and move to Nashville to concentrate on writing- the rest is history. You can see Phil and Don Everly on the painting behind me, if youve got good eyes . Id like to dedicate this to the uncle of my friend buddyfan1959, who recently passed away. |

John Lennon is the only artist to place multiple songs in the top 10 (as a member of the Beatles and as a solo artist). The Beatles are followed by The Rolling Stones (14 entries); Bob Dylan (12); Elvis Presley (11); The Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix (seven each); and Chuck Berry, U2, James Brown, Prince, Led Zeppelin and Sly & the Family Stone (six each). To make videos of the five parts of this list, I've decided to play only the name of each song - whenever it's possible - (thanks for the idea Mcguffin !), so it's pretty fast, the other videos you've already seen on Youtube (who are not by me) are from the German version of the magazine, but here's the official list.
