~ Kate Bush, Tori Amos "Duet"
Views: 864589 | | | | | "My Lagan Love Song For Eric" NEW (12/09) QUOTE FROM TORI AMOS: Youve covered Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill. Would you ever cover Kate Bush again, or work with her? I think she's such an amazing talent. I'd be open to something like that, but it's hard ...More to know where people are in their lives. Sometimes once people have children they get in a different space in their lives, but for me, from my point of view, it'd be a privilege to work with somebody like that. Have you ever approached her before about working together? No I'm shy in that way. Usually things that happen, happen because you run into each other somehow, somewhere, or somebody gets a message through to me, usually an agent, that kind of thing. Im not usually the type of person...I don't usually do that. Don't ask me why, I'm a recluse and pretty shy, except when I'm touring, but I'm not the type of person to go up and say, Do you want to do something. It's just not my way. So when I've worked with Victor Krauss, and the things I've done, they approached me, for the most part. If I'm developing a project I'll approach somebody on it. So while we were developing the musical, for example, we approached different people and finally felt that the National Theatre really understood what it needed to be. So in that kind of context I can approach, because it's not a human being, it's not personal. But when you're approaching a person...Neil Gaiman called me all those years ago. I don't want to intrude on somebodys ... |

~ Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" cover by Amanda Palmer (live)
Views: 88245 | | | | | At the Troubadour Club, West Hollywood, CA - June 25, 2009. For those in a hurry slide the start point to 1:54, as this version has the full spoken intro, (and untidily, the first few seconds of the next song ...). Michael Jackson had died, aged 50, of an ...More apparent heart attack earlier the same day. Amanda rearranged Billie Jean, added it to the set and performed it as a form of remembrance. Michael Jackson was never a big part of my life growing up and Billie Jean was not a song that I particulary loved but this take on it by Amanda made my hair stand on end and moved me like the original never did. And Windy has posted the same piece but with much better video at : www.youtube.com Nice :) . [Tech note: If you let Windy's run for 49 seconds then start mine and faff around with the pause/play to get them in sync you get the high end sound of Windy's combined with the low end sound of mine with the two views of Amanda and that is ... err ... interesting? Maybe. End tech note] [Tech note: The video is dark because ... it was dark. End of tech note] [Random note: Al Yankovic was in the audience, as was her beau Neil Gaiman] |

~ CORALINE SNEAK PEEK WEEK - Day 4: Meet the Inhabitants of Coraline's World
Views: 160685 | | | | | Coraline is surrounded by a bizarre cast of characters in her world and "other world" and in today's featurette, day four of Coraline Sneak Peek Week, we'll meet them, and hear who they are from the film's director, Henry Selick, the writer Neil Gaiman, a ...More nd the cast that plays them. Coraline, of course, is the protagonist, sprightly, excitable and quick-witted. Her mother is very businesslike and often has no patience for her, while her father is a blundering but fun lug. Coraline's neighbours include Mr. Bobinski, a bizarre Russian man who claims to be starting a "mouse circus" and keeps shoving beets down Coraline's throat, and a new character for the movie: a boy her age named Weiby Lowvat. In Coraline's copy house are idealized versions of these characters, including Mr. Bobinski who actually HAS a mouse circus, an Other Father that is as smooth as it comes, and a version of Weiby that's a lot less of a gross goof. The Other Mother seems like the best one of all, an ideal parent, lavishing love and attention on Coraline, but in reality, she's the most sinister creature there is.
